Solar Christmas Lights- 2009

Solar Christmas Lights are becoming more and more popular each year. One of my favorite pastimes during the Holiday Season is strolling through the neighborhood and taking in the lovely light displays that my neighbors put up almost as a public service to spread the Holiday cheer. The down side of this is that it boosts our power usage and increases Man's contribution to Global warming, not to mention decreasing the disposable holiday income of my neighbors which probably ties into the economy in some way.

Just look at the Joy that this lady gets from her displays:

Now displays like this make the case for Solar Christmas Lights, and there are much larger displays near where I live in Southern California.

LED Christmas lights are a key ingredient in a Solar display because LEDs use one tenth of the power that traditional lights use. Since Solar Christmas lights are battery powered, the length they stay lit is dependent on the quality of the battery and the amount of power used by the lights. This means that LEDs will stay lit about 10 times longer.

The type of battery is also very key to whether you can use the lights on cloudy days as well as how long the lights will shine on any day. You can get more information on this at this article on how to choose your Solar Christmas lights.

So use Solar Christmas lights this year and you won't have to feel guilty if you put on a display like this:
